Advanced Presentation Features
1. Changing Backgrounds
In this presentation, the background is missing. It is still all white…which is ok, but not very exciting.
You can change the background of any slide show. You can change all the slides to the same background, or you can change each individual background.
EXERCISE 2: To change backgrounds, go to FORMAT…BACKGROUND.
Go to the Drop Down in the Dialogue Box. Choose MORE COLORS or FILL EFFECTS. Play around with these until you get the look you want. Select all slides to change. (APPLY TO ALL)
2. Apply Design Templates
If you want, instead of selecting the background, you can select a template that will give you that professional look. It will not only change the background, but it will change the fonts and bullets, as well.
EXERCISE 3: Go to FORMAT. APPLY DESIGN TEMPLATE. Browse through the templates and select one you like. Make sure it works for all your slides.
3. Inserting Graphics
There are two ways to insert graphics into a presentation. One is on a page that does not have a placeholder for it.
EXERCISE 4: Go to slide 2. Then go to INSERT GRAPHIC on the Menu bar. INSERT PICTURE>>>CLIPART. Insert an appropriate graphic onto the slide. Move it around and resize it.
The second method will require you to change the layout of the slide. Go to Slide 3. FORMAT>>>SLIDE LAYOUT. Choose one of the slide layouts with the little man with the pointy nose. Notice how this affects the slide. Double click on the placeholder and add a graphic.
4. Slide Transitions and Sounds
You can add slide transition movement so that slides appear in certain ways…like sliding in.
EXERCISE 4: Click on Slide 1. Go to Slideshow>>>Slide transitions. Play around with the different transitions until you get the one you want. You can select this for all your slides, or you can do each slide individually. There is a random transition selection at the bottom of the list that will make every slide transition in a different way.
You can also choose the speed of the transition.
NOW…In the same dialogue box. Choose a sound you would like your computer to make when it is doing this transition. Again, you can apply this sound to all slide transitions, or you can do each slide individually.
At this point, it would be a good idea to view your show. Go to SLIDESHOW and View Show. Fix any mistakes.
5. Adding Animation
With animation, you have to do each slide individually. It can be very time consuming.
EXERCISE 5: Selectslide 1.Go to SLIDESHOW>>>Custom animation. Select the text 2 for animation. Click on the EFFECTS tab. Choose an entry animation and a sound (if desired). Check by previewing. Change, if desired until you get what you want.
Do this for another slide.
EXERCISE 6:
You will be creating a three-slide presentation on something you know a lot about…maybe yourself or a pet.
Go to FILE…NEW. Choose to use a design template or start a presentation from a blank presentation where you can add your own background colors.
The first slide will be a title slide, so choose the title layout.
Add your title and subtitle.
Since you already know that this will be three slides, add the next two. Make at least one with a graphic. Go to INSERT… NEW SLIDE to make more slides.
Add titles and text. Add graphics.
Add slide transitions, sound and animation. Share your show.
