Predicate nouns are found in sentences that contain linking verbs. They are found in the predicate pert of the sentence. They are nouns that rename the subject of the sentence. They are NOT the subject.

Example: The mare is a thoroughbred.

Thoroughbred is a predicate nouns because it is another noun that identifies the subject...mare.
