Expressing Your Opinion
- State your opinion clearly, but do not be a know-it-all. Use phrases such as in my opinion and I believe
- Give facts or opinions to support your opinion.
- Respect the opinions of others. When you make fun of people's opinions, you insult them and make them angry. Then they will not listen to anything you say.
- When you want to persuade others to agree with you, start by stating all the points on which you do agree.
Being a Critical Listener
- Listen for proof of the speaker's opinion. Does the speaker give facts or reasons to support it?
- Evaluate the speaker. Does the speaker know the facts?
- Try to keep an open mind if you disagree with the speaker.
