Telling an Anecdote
  1. Make sure to tell all the important details and tell them in order.
  2. Practice telling your story at least twice - the second time in front of a mirror. If possible, record your voice.
  3. Look at your audience. Be confident. Smile!
  4. Make sure everyone can hear you. Speak clearly.
  5. Be dramatic! Use your face, your voice, and your body to show how you feel. Use your voice to build suspense.
Being an Active Listener
  1. Be polite. Show by your face that you are interested.
  2. As you listen to an anecdote, try to predict its ending.
  3. Keep the order of events straight in your mind.
  4. Listen and be prepared to ask questions.
  5. Listen to see how the speaker dramatizes the story.
