Driving Miss Daisy |
 |
In the play Driving Miss Daisy, there were many changes over time. The relationship between Hoke and Daisy, the ages of all of the characters, and the way Hoke acted. all of those changed over time. It kept the story from being boring to watch everything and everyone change. Things changing over time turned out to be both positive and negative, yet surprising too. Over time, the friendship between Hoke and Daisy changed a lot. At the beginning, Daisy purposely disrespected Hoke. She would never accept him or his requests to help her. Then, she slowly began to see him as a friend instead of an enemy. She finally broke free from her mean streak, and after many years, considered him as a best friend. |

Another thing changing over time was the age of all of the characters. They all grew older and changed not only physically, but mentally also. This can be shown by how Idella grew old and frail, and actually died. Also how Miss Daisy grew older and she finally snapped. She went crazy and had to go to an elderly home. Still more, Hoke finally couldn't drive anymore, because of how bad his eye sight was and how elderly he had become. The age of all of the characters changed their lives very much. Hoke definitely changed over time too. At first he was extremely obedient and eager to please. He always wanted to make life easy for Miss Daisy. He really wanted to be her friend. Yet as their friendship strengthened, he showed his feelings with her more often. Like when he told her that he actually was a person, not just a man driving her from place to place. He still was kind and polite, but he became a much more independent person. |
