Poetry

There once was an old oak tree

Home to a young monkey

He swung from the branch

And did a little dance

And smiled with so much glee

One time we were at the beach

My mom was eating a peach

She bit into the pit

And threw a big fit

Every time she smiles, I screech!

A baby squirrel lives in a tree,

His hole is in the trunk,

Climbing, running with so much glee,

He has a lot of spunk!

I just walked through the bushes,

Silly, stupid me.

What is all this itching?

Oh no! It’s poison ivy!

Ocean

Rough, calm, lunar

Crashing, shining, watching

Waves loudly crashing on the shore

Deep Sea

Flag Burning Essay

Flag burning, I think, is degrading to America as a country. At first thought, flag
burning doesn't seem to be that big of any issue. Our flag represents so much.
From the history behind it, to the people itself, it means a lot. The subject is very
controversial because some people say that it is a freedom of expression, but
others think that it is wrong. Technically, it is not against the constitution to burn
the American flag. It shouldn't be an amendment to tell people NOT to burn the
flag, but if people really think about how much it means, then maybe they will
decide to express their opinions a different way.

I am against flag burning because I think that it is hurtful to the people that it
represents. The "mothers of people who have died at war, to your next door
neighbor, that is what our flag represents." (Adkins) The good and the bad, when
you burn the flag, it's almost as if you are burning those things. You don't think it's
right if someone would burn your mother, do you? If you were to burn the American
flag, someone might ask you those very same questions. Could you answer them
with good reasons? You probably couldn't. There are many other ways you could
express your feelings against the government without discriminating against
someone else.

After the terrorist attacks, I think that people have a better understanding of what
it means to be American. All the freedoms that we posses, and our equal rights, it's
all in the history behind the flag. Basically, the flag represents everything that it
means to be American. There should be an amendment prohibiting flag burning.
Maybe I am being narrow-minded, but I think that it's wrong to burn the flag. I
take it personally when I hear of someone burning the flag. People can express
their opinions, but there is a lot of ways you can do it.

I can understand why people would think it's ok to burn the flag. It's protecting
the same things that it represents. The freedom of speech, the freedom of
expression, the freedom of the press, freedom of petition, and the freedom of
assembly. I am one of those people who think that there are ways to get around
things. Burning the flag for the example is voicing your opinion, but there are
others ways you could express it with out offending anyone else.

Flag burning is a very controversial issue. It can go one way or the other. I think
that burning the flag is wrong, and that there should be an amendment against it. I
think that everything behind the flag is offended when someone burns it. There are
many ways to express your opinion in 2002 and that flag burning is wrong.

Kidnapped By Aliens

A long time ago, a couple of friends and I went on a trip to the beach. One day, we were walking on the boardwalk at night, and we saw this cool star. We did not think much of it, and kept walking.
About fifteen minutes later, we heard a huge crash. We walked back to where we saw the star, and saw a mysterious object. It appeared to be a UFO, but it was late at night, and the idea of a UFO being at Ocean City was the most absurd yet.
We decided to watch the object for a couple minutes. About five minutes later, the brightest light we had ever seen shone out of the object. Then it abruptly stopped. A green little creature popped out of the top, where the light had been, and it was an alien! I started to scream and run away, but then I realized what could this little green thing to do me? So I went back, and we began to "talk" with him. Apparently, his name was Lemon, and he came from a planet far, far away. He never told us why he came to Earth, or to the beach. All he told us was that he had to leave as soon as possible. He climbed back into his UFO, and he left as quickly as he came.
We started to talk about the strange occurrence, but then we realized one of us was gone. The aliens kidnapped Maren! We never got to say goodbye..

The 1960’s-The Beatles

Who was the band who most impacted and began such a social change in the 1960's? They were the singing quartet from Liverpool, and the four members were Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney. They called themselves the Beatles. They debuted in 1963 in America, and "Beatlemania" had begun.

The quartet from Britain that started "Beatlemania" still lives on musically. They made such a big impact, that they are music legends. It all started in 1957 when John Lennon formed the Quarrymen. In 1960, their name changed several times. It changed from "The Silver Beatles," to "Long John," and they finally just settled on "The Beatles." Also in 1960, they went to Hamburg, Germany to play at local clubs. Ringo Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, joined the band in 1962. He was replacing original drummer Pete Best, who was fired by their manager, Brian Epstein.  Once Beatlemania hit the United States and the UK, the Beatles were everywhere.
In 1962, their very first single was released in Britain. The song was called "Love Me Do," and it didn't make the number one spot. The year later, their second single, "Please Please Me," was released in both the UK and the US. Ever since then, they were making number one hits right after the other.
The Beatles' sound included influences from many different artists, such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Buddy Holly, and the Everly Brothers. John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote most of their songs. George Harrison also contributed later on to the song writing. Parents didn't agree with any of their songs, style, or just the Beatles themselves. Most of the people who were devoting fans were young teenagers.
To prove their success, they had the top five singles in the US. Also in 1964 they made their very first movie, "A Hard Day's Night." They also had an album and a song by the same name. They made three other movies during the late sixties. They were; "Help!" (1965), "Magical Mystery Tour" (1968), and "Let It Be" (1970). They also made an animated movie, "Yellow Submarine," but they had very little part in the making of it.
The American Tour of August 1966 was their last live performance for a paying audience. They stopped playing so they could concentrate more on their studio recordings. Some of the media spread rumors that the band was going to break up, but the single of "Strawberry Fields Forever" in February 1967 changed their minds very quickly. In August of 1967, Brian Epstein, their manager from the beginning, passed away due to a drug overdose.
The beginning of the end started in 1968, when the White Album was released. The media gave them a lot of credit for that one. It is known as possible their greatest album ever. Some of the singles are "Hey Jude" and "Revolution." They started their own record company as well, called Apple Records.  Society had loved the Beatles from the start. They are known as possibly the most popular rock'n'roll act ever to be imported from Britain. They released 18 albums total from 1963-1970. They also influenced other bands of their day, such as The Monkees.
Their music still lives on today by the people who still listen to their many albums. They inspire many other bands of the millennium as well. They created the first "music video" with "Yellow Submarine" which led to the video channels of today such as MTV or VH1. Unlike other bands, they had more than one good song on every record. They were also a start of "boy bands" which are common in pop music today.
Their breakup in 1970 was a result of McCartney leaving. He sued George, John, and Ringo, which dissolved any hopes of a reunion. There were hopes of a reunion later on, but John Lennon was assassinated in December 1980.

The Beatles made a huge impact on society in the 1960s, and changed the way music was seen by the public. The world was devastated when they broke up in 1970, but all good things must come to an end. Their music still lives on, and so do their many influences to other bands. They will never be forgotten.
